Rezidence Café Kaprál

The unique literary salon Rezidence Café Kaprál, which opened in September 2022 as part of the Brno 2028 candidacy, offers a singular cultural experience.

  • The preserved flat of Brno poet Zeno Kaprál (1941–2020)
  • An unequalled artefact worthy of a visit in itself
  • A space for literary gatherings, readings, discussions, book launches, lectures, and other cultural events
  • A programme being prepared by the dramaturgical team comprising, among others, representatives of the important Brno publishers Druhé město, Větrné mlýny, and Host
  • In cooperation with Authors Reading Month and the Moravian Library

Testimonials

“At Rezidence Café Kaprál, I have moderated several evenings for the literary magazine Host and also launched my collection of stories Liliputin. My basic insight: People like going on visits. That is precisely how you feel at Rezidence Café Kaprál: that you are at someone’s house, that you are welcome, and that they do not want you to leave. I was surprised at how fast people, even from outside my circle, got used to going to this first-floor flat and at how often they returned. Book launches are special occasions, but even the regular evenings from Host and other programmes were full. At a time when new projects are often fighting for attention, requiring advertising and a campaign, Rezidence Café Kaprál filled a hole that I had known about for a long time: Brno did not have a single place that regularly held literary evenings. But it had so many people who love literature.”
