Thanks to its immaculately executed construction, this reservoir, the oldest of the three Žlutý kopec Water Tanks, gives you the impression of a never-ending, ever-reding space. It dates to 1874 and was built according to plans by the English engineer Thomas Docwra. Its outstanding design, inspired by English architecture, has delivered a unique water management structure of Europe-wide importance. Standing inside the Water Tank – with its massive brick walls, lightened by semi-circular arched ‘windows’, and its crazily uneven floor built using countervaults – it feels as if you’ve stepped into a monumental underground temple.
